Penang International Property Expo 2010 to exhibit RM 3.5 billion projects Over its 5 year history, the Penang International Property Expo 2010 (PIP2010) has managed to grow into the largest dedicated property showcase in the Northern Region of Malaysia. The event is organized by PIP Creation Sdn Bhd with the support of Raine & Horne International & Penevents Sdn Bhd. This year, PIP 2010 managed to garner strong support from major players in the Malaysian property development scene, namely Sunway City, Mah Sing Group, SP Setia, MTT Properties, Ivory Properties and many more. The gross development value (GDV) of the projects on offer this year exceeds RM 3.5 billion. Event Director Mr Ong Ban Seang recently commented that this year’s event would be different from the past as they moved from a local consumer base to a more regional & international nature. Ong said “We are reaching out through various channels including national news media, international publications & the Internet to reach a growing audience of investors interested in Malaysia, and Penang in particular. We even have Malaysia Property International (MPI) joining in the show this year to help spur the international interest in Penang properties. This is essential as Penang developers now increasingly build projects costing in excess of RM 1 million per unit. They need to reach a more international, affluent market located all around the Asia Pacific region.” He added “Members of related professional bodies such as the Penang Bar Committee, Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (PAM) Northern Chapter, Institute of Surveyors Malaysia (ISM), Institute of Engineers Malaysia (IEM), Institut Bank-Bank Malaysia (IBBM) Penang Branch, Real Estate & Housing Developers Association (REHDA) had been invited for hosted visits to the Expo. This is to add the professional & trade element to the Expo.” This year, the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) National Dialogue would be held in Penang concurrent with PIP 2010 on 20th March 2010. The dialogue would feature the update by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Tourism on MM2H issues. It would also serve as a useful forum for those interested in MM2H or serving as agents for MM2H to get first hand information from the Ministry’s MM2H Centre Director. This serves to recognize the major role of MM2H participants in driving the demand for Penang properties, especially at the high end of the spectrum. In addition, many international participants from overseas including media & agents would be brought in to attend the dialogue as well. The Malaysia Institute of Estate Agents (MIEA) will be organizing the inaugural Penang International Property Forum featuring speakers from Singapore, Indonesia, China & Malaysia presenting their views & predictions on the property markets in Asia in the coming years. The forum would take place on 19th March 2010 and be open to members of the property trade in Penang & beyond who are interested in industry developments & trends. The Expo is supported by the Penang State Government and it aims to promote both affordable housing for Penangites, as its corporate social responsibility as well as promoting signature developments that underline Penang’s aspiration to be an international city, a habitat of choice for the region’s movers & shakers. At the series of talks held at the expo - some has rightly so, focused on strategies to face the uncertain time including a Feng Shui Talk entitled “Creating Opportunities in Difficult Times”. Apart from the talks, the forums organized in conjunction with PIP’09 have always been much sought after affairs. The forum on Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) will be on Saturday 28th of March 2009 while the forum on the ‘Implications of Georgetown World Heritage Listing on the Real Estate Market’ will be keenly followed. Most of the role players in the forums are well known personalities, moderated by none other than Dato’ Kee Phaik Cheen for the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) forum and YB Wong Hon Wai for the forum on the ‘Implications of Georgetown World Heritage Listing’ Visitors to the Expo will have more than what they can bargained for. Door gifts are given to early visitors daily – which will in turn entitle them to lucky draws which will have on offer RM10, 000 worth of prizes. Another Penang International Property Expo 2009 (PIP’ 09) highlight will be the MNP Auction – where 50 properties will come under the hammer and 300 will be on exhibit.
